ANDOVER- Elvira”Effie”(Scuderi) Torrisi 95, a long time Andover resident passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family and friends on April 9 2012.

Mrs Torrisi was born in Lawrence, daughter of the late Salvatore and Margaret Scuderi on January 8,1917. She was raised in Washington D.C. and moved back to the Greater Lawrence community in 1946 and married Salvatore Torrisi.

Mrs. Torrisi was employed by the Town of Andover in the Assessor’s office until her retirement. She was a communicant of St.Augustine’s Church in Andover and was a member of the Andover Garden Club. Mrs Torrisi enjoyed other hobbies, playing Bridge with her friends as well as belonging to a local book club. The widow of the late Salvatore Torrisi who passed away in 1967,she is survived by her son Thomas R. Torrisi, a granddaughter Robyn Murphy and two great grandchildren, Evelyn and Scott. Also among her survivors are her sister in law Majorie Scuderi of Washington D.C. and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mrs Torrisi was predeceased by her son Richard Torrisi who passed away in 1997,and also by her brothers Thomas and Placido of Washington D.C. The family would like to specially thank Ms. Julie Martinez for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Effie in her last months here on earth.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at St.Augustine Andover. Burial will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence. Family and friends may call on Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 10 AM prior to the Mass at the Conte Funeral Home 28 Florence Street Andover. A celebration of Effie’s life is planned in May with family and friends to be invited.
