Anthony (TJ) S. Conte Jr. Obituary

Anthony Samuel Conte Jr. - known as TJ - passed away peacefully at his home on Plum Island, Massachusetts, surrounded by his family. He leaves behind a legacy of the importance of family, community, and dedication to others. Born on November 22, 1965, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to Anthony Samuel Conte Sr., and Ann (Cataudella) Conte, TJ grew up in North Andover, where his roots run deep.

 

TJ was a proud graduate of North Andover High School Class of 1983, where he was a hall-of-famer athlete for both baseball and football. His athletics were matched only by the lifelong friendships that he forged, a trend that continued throughout his life. He remained a devoted supporter of the Class of ‘83 Scholarship and often spoke of the teammates, coaches, classmates and teachers who left a profound impact on him.

 

His education and his baseball career continued at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, where he had a great time with people who became some of his closest friends, and where his family life began. It was not long before Massachusetts called him home. TJ found great purpose in his work as owner and funeral director of Conte Funeral Home, with locations in North Andover, Andover, Georgetown and Newburyport. His work was never just a job - it was a calling. He made himself available day and night, ensuring that every person he helped felt seen, heard, and deeply cared for. He touched lives across the region, offering comfort, kindness and laughter in the moments that mattered most.

 

TJ wanted to send a sincere and heartfelt thank you to all that helped him build and grow Conte Funeral Homes into a place of dignity, compassion and care. Deep appreciation is extended to the dedicated colleagues and friends whose loyalty, hard work, and support meant the world to him. To all the men and women that worked beside him during his time at the funeral home - thank you. Your commitment helped shape a legacy of service that touched thousands of lives and brought comfort to countless families.

 

A man of faith, TJ found spiritual grounding and community at St. Michael Parish in North Andover, where Fr. Paul Keyes, Fr. Jerry Hogan and Fr. John Delaney cultivated a church that radiated love, encouragement, and a spirit of mutual support. St. Michaels was a judgement-free zone long before it became popular, and TJ cherished this sanctuary, where helping others was not just a mission, but a way of life.

 

TJ raised his kids in Georgetown, and later moved to Newburyport and then Plum Island, all towns and areas that he held dearly. He served on the board of Georgetown Savings Bank, was a local business owner of Farley’s of Newburyport, served on the Newbury Conservation Committee, and took genuine joy in supporting the Northshore’s restaurants and neighborhood businesses - always cheering on the communities he loved. He fell in love with the community of Lakewood Ranch in Bradenton, Florida and spent much time at his vacation home there with old and new close friends. Throughout his life, his rare warmth and quick humor turned brief encounters into friendships that stood the test of time.

 

Family was at the heart of everything for TJ. His second chapter began when he met his wife, Lisa Burke, and together they built a life centered on love and family. His children were his world - he was endlessly devoted to making sure they were cared for, supported and capable. His most treasured time was spent with the full Conte family - his parents, siblings and their partners, kids and their partners and grandkids.

 

He is survived by his beloved wife and companion in every sense, Lisa Burke; his loving parents, Tony and Ann Conte; his sister Lori Conte and her partner Kari Lynch; and his brother Sam Conte and his wife Kelley. He leaves behind his children: Sam Conte and wife Molly, Anthony Conte and wife Courtney, Graceann Conte and her partner Emily Sauls, and Scott Conte. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Shannon Everard and husband Anthony, and Michael Burke.

 

TJ was a proud grandfather to Lucca Conte, Sweeney Lou Everard, Camilla (Cici) Conte, Lilah Conte, and Miller Everard, who were his greatest joy. He was a proud uncle to Kaitlyn O’Neill and her husband Cam, Sam, Karoline, and Matthew Conte. He was predeceased by his loving grandparents, Ellie and Sam Conte and Sadie and Sam Cataudella. His life was enriched by endless friends and people close enough to be considered family.
