History

Conte Funeral Home has been serving North Andover area families for years. We are honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come.

In 1977, Anthony S. Conte, Sr. purchased The Dewhirst Funeral Home of North Andover which had been in existence for twenty years. Tony immediately set out to provide personal, sensitive, and compassionate service to the community by providing facilities that reflected a warm and dignified environment and, by paying attention to every aspect of each individual service, allowed families the freedom to grieve without having to worry about the details on the day of the funeral. Each year, the number of families served increased significantly.

After completing his college education, Anthony S. Conte, Jr., (TJ) returned from Florida with his young family. He acquired his funeral director's license, graduated with high honors, and purchased the long established Merton E. Roberts Jr. Funeral Home of Georgetown. A funeral home that had been family owned for five generations, Mr. Roberts recognized the Conte family as one that would continue his family's tradition of a caring, family owned service.

When the largest funeral home in Andover closed, many Andover families were left searching for a funeral home that provided the quality of service to which they had been accustomed. Many expressed to the Contes their wish for a location within their hometown. In 1996, the site at 28 Florence Street in Andover was purchased and completely renovated and has since become a fixture in the town.

In March of 2009, keeping with the tradition of family owned funeral homes, we purchased the Twomey-LeBlanc Funeral Home in Newburyport where we continue to provide the same high level of service expected by our families.

Today, the Conte Funeral Homes consist of locations in Andover and North Andover and is being overseen by Anthony S. Conte III who is following in his grandfather and father footsteps. Our family owned and operated funeral service has grown because of our service to the community and our quest for excellence through compassion. This philosophy has made us one of the leading and highly respected funeral homes in the area. In addition, many families have found comfort in pre-planning and pre-paying funeral expenses. We have been able to help protect over 5 million dollars in individual trust accounts over the years. We feel privileged for the opportunity to serve more and more families every year and for the growth of our reputation of providing excellent services.

Our goals of providing sensitive and caring service, attention to detail and affordability have remained the cornerstone since our beginning. We believe that our commitment to personal service has helped us achieve our mission of being "passionately proud to be family owned and operated". Conte Funeral Homes prides itself in the many thank you cards we have received over the years from families we were able to help at such an important and difficult time.
